Happily,

my daughter made it from the very crowded New Orleans airport to San Antonio after a mere 24 hour sojourn. In San Antonio she was amused - slightly - to find that dogs were sniffing everyone's luggage. She was whisked from line by agents of the US Government, or at least by some people who have a more than passing acquaintance with that entity, and delivered to a safe house in Houston where she will be staying until she figures out what to do next. Her main wish is to return to rescue or somehow retrieve her best friend, Jezebel, a Persian she has had for next to ever. She was forced to abandon her in the condo she had holed up in because everyone told her "they" weren't allowing pets to be evac'd. Wrong, as she found out when she got to the airport. Now she's both grief stricken about her friend and suffering from survivors guilt.

But she is safe, and I'm glad. Thanks to all of you who offered her succor. While she is not an Official Thelemite, she is nevertheless someone who is trying to follow her Will. I will let her know that she has somewhere to go if hanging with the Bushies gets too much for her.

I saw something somewhere that had a phone number for people to call in pets they had to leave behind. If you'd like, I can try to track it down. Apparently there are people planning on going in and doing pet rescue, though I have no clue how they will get pets and their people reunited. :-(

She's more than welcome here. I can put her up or if my spare room is full, another sister has offered hers. We'll even go get her. You've got my number (512 442 7657).

Leroy, I'm trying to respond to a screened comment, but lj won't let me. The comment may have been written by your daughter.

Please pass this info on to her:

SPCA help for animals
Friday, 9:50 p.m.

There's hope for stranded pets in the New Orleans area. The Louisiana SPCA, New Orleans' animal control agency, has begun rescuing pets from owners houses.

Louisiana SPCA director Laura Maloney said shelter workers follow other agencies and crews through neighborhoods and rescue pets, some that are locked in houses. At the owners' request, "we break in," she said.

Owners have to call or email the operation and give their name and address and information about where the pet is confined.

The hotline number is: 1-225-578-6111. E-mail should be sent to Katrinaanimalrescue@yahoo.com.

The hotline already is in effect, Maloney said. "It's busy an awful lot. We are trying to get a bank of telephones"

I hope it helps!
